The Writing

Kid Poem

Dedicated my kids: Kenneth, Lillian & Atom

Nothing in this world brings me more joy

than to see a smile on their faces.

It’s like their laughter replaces this stasis

with that view of their baby teeth spaces.

It’s amazing to see the little bits of myself

incarnated in my kiddos.

Like a window to me as a child,

my three little dittos.

And the pieces of their mom’s,

they got the best of us both.

See, she filled in the holes of my deficits as a human,

and they got it all, now that’s growth.

Talent and flair,

intelligence and insight,

curiosity and wit,

Admitted,

it’s just a tidbit of what they inherited

from my side of the split.

Leveled them up higher,

these beasts I have sired,

creatures of the inspired.

I’m glad they acquired the traits from their mothers,

I’ve always admired.

The ideal mix of the two,

hybridized,

but they all got my eyes

They’ve been optimized and reorganized,

but miniaturized,

these pint-sized surprises,

I’m mesmerized.

All 3 are smart as astronauts.

they must’ve got the expansion slot

and who would have thought?

My favorite talks are always with them,

we talk about sunspots, kilowatts, flowerpots

and Sir Lancelot’s return to Camelot.

Car rides are a blast.

Singing loud and sitting dances,

awkward faces from the fellas in their relics,

they must be jealous.

We do get kinda rowdy sometimes admittedly,

but only a little overzealous.

Did I mention one of them’s a cellist?

They inspire me to always improve,

give me a reason to amuse,

a motive to cook food,

the common mood improves

my attitude by orders of magnitude,

it’s like I’m renewed.
