Your (Dis)Honor

I have something to say, please don’t hold me in contempt

I’m making this attempt, but from the rules it seems she was exempt,

Dutifully I’ve followed through, I’ve done what you’ve asked

Despite the evidence you based this order on, the truth got masked,

As a father, I request to be heard, and I demand some respect,

Silencing my intellect, when my only goal was to protect,

My life seems to be devoid of value in the eyes of this court,

Your judgement seemed to be focused on maximizing child support,

You don’t take into account the people you’ve destroyed,

And you take away people’s children because they’re gainfully employed.

And give them to the mother, to be raised by another,

But you failed to acknowledge the fact that he has a sister and a brother,

You robbed them too, took away their blood, do they have any rights?

How do you propose I explain this to them, on those sad lonely nights.

The best interest of a child, since when is it good to lose a parent,

You perpetuate the cycle, is this what my sons will inherit?

A corrupted system where judges’ and court’s only concern is money,

Is my family a joke to you, because I don’t think it’s funny.

How can I possibly be a father to my son with only 63 days a year?

Could you effect your offspring if you had to adhere to an order so severe?

And why would you deny his and my rights, when we’ve done nothing wrong?

The damage you have caused is irreparable, permanent effects are lifelong.

But you don’t have any children, so how could you possibly understand,

When did we decide that our children’s futures should be in your hands?

An elected official draped in a robe, it’s not democracy when you run unopposed,

You’re also immune from being sued, can’t open a case that’s already been closed.

So you continue to trample on our rights and our constitutional liberties,

Never to be held to account for your corrupt and unjust activities.

But listen well and hear my words, your time is coming to an end,

Changes are coming your (Dis)honor, we know the laws we must amend,

Our fight will never be over, until we can rest assured

That our son’s place in their children’s lives is affirmatively secured.
